Where do mosquitoes live?

Mosquitoes, whose worldwide population is estimated at around 110 trillion, occupy practically every corner of the globe except Antarctica, Iceland, the Seychelles and a few small atolls in French Polynesia. During the dinosaur era (mosquitoes were identical to how we know them today), the tropical climate was humid and mosquitoes were probably active and able to breed all year round. Increasing in number and strength. According to experts, the situation was similar to the Canadian Arctic today. The difference is that in today's Canadian Arctic, mosquitoes do not find many animals to prey on. When they find one, explains Lauren Culler, entomologist at the Institute of Arctic Studies at Dartmouth College, “They are relentless. Nothing can stop them. They can cover you in a matter of seconds.” A swarm of ravenous female mosquitoes can literally bleed a baby caribou by biting it 9,000 times a minute (which is equivalent to sucking half the blood of an adult human being in just two hours!).
